Perhaps. It sounds sensible.

I wouldn't be entirely convinced of that mind you. Party activists are not like troops in the army who go where the party high command tells them and does exactly as they are told you know! They are volunteers who do as they like. Many party activists who live in Wrexham will therefore be highly reluctant to 'let Labour and the Lib Dems fight it out' over their own seat whilst they go off into neighbouring seats that have their own activists.

I know it is the logical thing to do. But the media and us election watchers tend to expect too much conformity in what the party activists do. In reality things are very different.

I guess that the tories are sending their local troops to neighbouring Target seats, and letting Labour and the Lib Dems slug it out here.

Well I'm not sure there IS a major threat so long as the opposition remains divided. Certainly Plaid don't stand a chance. The question is whether Lib Dems or Tories could become a serious contender and attract support from the other party (coupled with the inevitable Labour slide).

I agree with Barnaby that the Lib Dems look the most likely. But having said that, I wouldn't write off the Conservatives. They came within a whisker in 1983, they have started to do a bit better in this partof the world recently and I think they led in Wrexham in the EU elections didn't they? Furthermore, the Tories are shown to be doing much better in Wales nowadays than some might expect.

I expect a Labour hold with a 3-4,000 majority unless something incredible happens. But I think the jury is still out with regards to whether it is going to be Tories or Lib Dems that benefit.

Has anyone seen any Labour leaflets being delivered in Wrexham yet?
I wonder who Labour view as the major threat?

2009-10 stats show that

Cheshire £5643 per pupil
Wrexham £5379 per pupil
Shropshire £5580 per pupil

So the spend in Cheshire is 5% more than in Wxm; Shropshire is just under 4% more.

Parents in Wrexham can compare and contrast that funding per pupil in schools in Wales is considerably less than funding per pupil for schools in Cheshire.
