  1. good call there Marder. :)

  2. Self praise is no praise Barnaby ;)

  3. The Labour majority is 981 not 978.

  4. The MP here won’t like the early BC proposals. Teford has been split in 2 Conservatives constituencies with a more than 10% majority.

I wonder what would have been the result in 2005 for the proposed Telford North and The Wrekin CC?

  5. There’s a limit to what notionals can do, but my estimate is that Labour would have won by a few hundred votes. There was a large swing here, as in all the towns surrounding the West Midlands conurbation.

  6. Another fairly pointless proposal in the Tory submission here with a proposed name change from Telford North and the Wrekin to become The Wrkein and Telford North.

Does this really matter??? It’ll be called Telford North and the Wrekin by everybody that refers to it anyway!

  7. The first tranche of target seats from the Conservatives in 2013…..include some seats they’ve already called for, which tells its own story I think :)

Anyway, the ten seats in the latest update (including some they’ve already mentioned) are

    Birmingham Northfield
    Bolton West
    Brecon and Radnorshire
    Chippenham
    Chorley
    Eastbourne
    Mid Dorset and North Poole
    Middlesborough South and East Cleveland
    Morley and Outwood
    North Devon
    Somerton and Frome
    Telford
    Torbay
    Vale of Clwyd

  8. A new town with typically violent swings – but really, are Labour likely to lose this one next time?

  9. Their chance was 2010 – next time they’re unlikely to enjoy as strong a national lead (if any, of course) or see Dave Wright give them as much ammunition.

  10. I think Telford is stretching things – as is Birmingham Northfield – the only won it once in 1983 – their best year – with the bizarre social conservative Warren Hawksley

Amd why isn’t Solihull on that list, or any of the South West :London commuter belt seats that the Lib Dems unexpectedly took in 1997?

  11. Hate to correct you Tim but the Tories actually held Northfield in 1987.

  12. ‘Hate to correct you Tim but the Tories actually held Northfield in 1987.’

I never said they didn’t – i was agreeing with Barnaby and Mike about Telford – but like Telford, I do think Northfield is an unrealistic target

  13. Apologies Tim- It was just the way it read to me obviously.
