Interesting fact - there are only 2 men under 35 in the Commons at the moment, which must be some kind of record.

Speaking of young MPs - does anyoneone have any info/gossip about my ex-MP Chris Leslie. Have Labour found him a safe seat yet?

“does anyoneone have any info/gossip about my ex-MP Chris Leslie. Have Labour found him a safe seat yet?”

he tried in Hull East but he withdrew from the contest just before the shortlisting stage as he didn’t get any ward branch nomination (so he knew he would have almost no chance in winning the contest even if shortlisted)

Yes Andy, Danny Alexander & Dan Rogerson. We do like our young MPs in the Lib Dems! Having said that I think it’s pretty safe to assume that the next Baby of the House after the next election will be the (Labour) Hon. Member for Glasgow Central.

The two male MPs under 35 are Andrew Gwynne (Labour, born 1974) and Dan Rogerson (Lib Dem, born 1975). Danny Alexander will be 36 in May.

Funnily enough, there are twice as many female MPs under 35 as men, all of them Lib Dem women MPs.

Sorry Andy, having met Danny Alexander & his youthful looks I thought he would be one of the two. Wasn’t aware of Andrew Gwynne at all. Do we know who’s likely to be the youngest MP for each party after the next election? As I said before, I wholly expect Anas Sarwar to be Baby of the House.

I think Anas Sarwar is about 23 or 24 at the moment, so you’re probably right about that.

Thanks for these figures Andrea…
Interesting that the Greens only contested it in 2005 - not before.

I’m guessing that nearly all the Green vote here is in Wortley?

Andrea (not registered)

ASC, 2556 out of 3757 Green total votes are in Farnley and Wortley

Curious that the LDs do so badly here when there was a Liberal MP here between 1983 and 1987.

Did the Liberals do well here locally in those days and if so when did they fade?

Richard (not registered)

The LDs got 1844 votes in Kirkstall ward to 1981 Labour.

It’s not surprising the LDs had their best result in this ward as it will include significant numbers of students in the parts next to Headingly and Hyde Park.

As the Conservatives and LDs are in alliance in Leeds I wonder if they will consider the sort of electoral pacts as they seem to have in Birmingham (there were 495 Conservative votes in Kirkstall).
