Hasn’t there been a mass deselection of sitting councillors ahead of next year’s elections? That’s probably behinf this decision

John Mason is the SNP candidate for Glasgow Shettleston.

It is almost identical to Glasgow East (omitting Garthamloch and Easterhouse).

He must be in line to run Labour much closer than the 11840 Labour majority recorded in 2010, in particular because the SNP traditionally did much better in Glasgow Ballieston (which the new Shettleston largely succeeds) at Holyrood than Westminster.

Is 36.81% the largest margin recorded in a by election regain since WW2?

I was surprised that Davina Rankin did not get the Glasgow Tory list seat. Perhaps that caused her to jump ship.

Calum – I agree. Though joining the Tories in Glasgow in the early ’90s wouldn’t provide many. Perhaps she was after a Lord Taylor/ Baroness Warsi-style peerage after she failed?

I doubt this will mean much for either party – she only managed a poor 4th against Tom Harris. She was a bit overrated

The tories will probably hold their list seat in Glasgow.

Davena never seemed like a Tory. Child benefit cuts to higher rate taxpayers is an odd reason to give. Doubt many raise that in Glasgow!
