Does anyone have a view on why it seems the boundary commission are going out of their way to come up with absurd or inappropriate names for the new constituencies?
I see the proposed seat for this area is to be called the Heads of the Valley. Up in north Wales we have the North Wales Coast. What is essentially Carmarthenshire is given some unpronouncable new name, as is the new Ynys Mon and Bangor constituency. We have South Powys despite it covering almost the whole of the (very very large) Powys area. And South and West Pembrokeshire when there must surely be a more appropriate and easy name that could be used like South West Pembrokeshire or just Pembrokeshire (does it really matter that the north of that county is not in the seat?)
And that’s just some of the Welsh seats. There appears to be a similar trend in parts of the English proposals as well. The commission seem to have taken the revised rules as an opportunity to create simply unnecessarily stupid constituencies.
