Shouldn't the name of the Green candidate be removed from the list of people standing in Cheltenham in 2010?

Not least becaue the Green Party spokesman in Cheltneham has stated to the press recently that they will not be standing a candidate this time round

Pete
Do you think voters in Hesters Way and Springbank etc know anything much about Green Party policies. I would think from experience people in the ward where I am a councillor, not in Cheltenham, see the Green Party as cuddly save our planet people.

For instance they are campaigning to stop an incinerator, which is probably a popular view if planned to be sited near to you!

It could put off some moderate voters as well though. I imagine the LDs have got a proportion of small 'c' conservative voters supporting them because they see them as woolly and inoffensive. Associating with the kind of strident, authoritarian neo-marxist approach of the Green party could put off some voters. Thinking about it, it may have an even more negative effect on the white working class support in places like Hesters Way. I dont expect the effect to be huge in any event, but it would go some way to offsetting the advantage that madmacs refers to.

So what's the Green's justification for standing against Martin Horwood at the last GE, but endorsing him this time round? Makes them look a bit absurd really.

No Green Party candidate in Cheltenham and they have endorsed Martin Horwood. Last time they got nearly 1000 votes. Can assume an 800-200 split to LDs so helps a bit. Plus there is a UKIp candidate

Charlton Park, Charlton Kings, Battledown, All Saints, St Peters, St Marks, St Pauls, Pittville, Oakley, Lansdown, College, Benhall & Reddings, Springbank, Hesters Way.

All of Up Hatherley, Leckhampton and Warden Hill come into the constituency (previously half in Cheltenham, half in Tewkesbury). These are why the notional majority is about 2,000 less than the majority last time.

Quick calculation shows that Tories got the most votes at the last local elections but Liberals won more seats.

Swindon Village moved into Tewkesbury. Prestbury also remains part of Tewkesbury but is in Cheltenham Borough Council.

Here's an opportunity to "declare" this seat, and contribute to the overall prediction for 2010
