Hi Anthony,

Just to gently correct your first statement, Ipsos MORI do weight our London polls by ethnicity as you can see here http://www.ipsos-mori.com/polls/2008/labour.shtml

Cheers,

We just need to look at the POLLS for Neil Kinnock prior to his now famous losing of the 1992 election / the POLLS that Brown poo pooed prior to him cancelling the election in 2007 to see examples where politicians DO follow the POLLS and react to them - Ken Livingstone himself has quoted before that he thinks Boris Johnson is a candidate to worry about - the latest POLLS are just making him more edgy as the day of his downfall comes ever closer.

I can sense some comparables with the likes of Robert Mugabe perhaps / there are a few similarities

Hmmm. People say that the parties' private polls show a smaller lead for Boris than YouGov.

Ralph - the BPC's disclosure rules are that a pollster has to release the details of a poll if it enters the public domain, so if a politician said "Your poll is rubbish, my latest private polling shows that I am actually on 40%", then the poll would have entered the public domain and they would have to release it.

If they said "Your poll is rubbish, my private poll contradicts it" but don't give any details of their private poll, then it hasn't entered the public domain and it's their own private information.
